The Huawei Developer Program (HDP) was first announced in 2015. Since then, the company said it has supported more than 1.3 million developers and 14,000 independent software vendors around the world.

Speaking at the Shanghai Connect 2019 trade show in Shanghai, Ken Hu's vice chairman said Huawei wants to extend the program to another 5 million developers. The company also wants to help partners "develop next-generation intelligent applications and solutions."

This is part of the company's broader strategy in the computer computing market, which includes investing in basic research to support new technologies such as artificial intelligence. Huawei also said it will make its hardware and software more accessible to its customers and partners.

Huawei, the world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, has run into obstacles in several developed countries, as Chinese technology companies are closely watched by Washington. The US suspects them of having links with the Chinese government and fears that they might be used by Beijing for covert espionage. Huawei denies infringement.

In May, the US Department of Commerce decided to put Huawei and its legal entities on the blacklist, limiting their ability to buy services and components from US firms. However, US authorities granted companies temporary permission to work with Huawei.

As reported by Vesti.EkonomikaIn August, Huawei Technologies founder Ren Zhengfei introduced a reform plan to counter US pressure. He said that the Chinese technology giant will spend more on manufacturing equipment this year to ensure uninterrupted supply, and reduce redundant jobs.

Last month, Huawei also launched its own HongmengOS operating system, also known as HarmonyOS, which can be used on a variety of devices, from smartphones to smart speakers and sensors. The company said that if it fails to use the Android software for its devices in the future, it may “immediately switch to HarmonyOS.”
